Michael Pilato joined RIT Athletics during the 2021-2022 school year, serving in a part-time capacity as a certified athletic trainer. In this role, he provides critical support to all athletic programs, assisting with game and practice coverage. With a career spanning over three decades in sports medicine, Pilato brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the department.
Pilato earned a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training from SUNY Brockport. His professional journey includes roles with Monroe Community College, Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, and University Sports Medicine, where he contributed to athletic injury rehabilitation, program development, and athlete care across various levels of competition.
A dedicated researcher and educator, Pilato has published several articles on the unique needs of equestrian athletes and presented his findings at industry conferences. His professional certifications include NATA certification and licensure in New York State.
Outside of his work at RIT, Pilato continues to provide per diem athletic training services in the Rochester area, reinforcing his commitment to athlete health and performance.
