Cara Maciag began her full-time role with RIT Athletics in October 2024. A licensed and certified athletic trainer, Cara brings extensive experience in sports medicine and athletic training at the collegiate, high school, and community levels.

Before joining RIT, Cara worked as the Head Athletic Trainer for Syracuse University Recreation Services, where she managed game and practice coverage for 46 competitive club sports teams, including men’s and women’s ice hockey and rugby. Her responsibilities included developing emergency action plans, implementing ImPACT testing for high-risk teams, and utilizing advanced medical documentation systems. Additionally, she served in various athletic training roles with Baylor University, international sports camps, and community events, showcasing her adaptability and commitment to athlete care.

Cara holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Baylor University and a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Adapted Physical Activity from Slippery Rock University. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the New York State Athletic Trainers’ Association, and has served on the Syracuse University DEIA Committee.

Her certifications include licensure from the State of New York, Texas, and Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, as well as CPR, AED, and emergency medical response credentials. Cara’s diverse background and passion for athlete health and safety make her a valuable asset to the RIT community.
