Bill Garno

Bill Garno begins his 30th season at the helm of the Rochester Institute of Technology Men’s Soccer program in 2025.

Garno has led the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament appearances (2000, 2001 and 2004) and nine conference tournament appearances, including six trips to the Liberty League Tournament. Prior to joining the Liberty League, Garno led the Tigers to four Empire 8 Championships, earning Empire 8 Coach of the Year honors in 2000 and 2006.

Over the past 29 seasons, Garno’s teams have compiled a 223-208-58 record (.515) and is one of only two coaches in program history to eclipse the 100-win plateau.
Under Garno’s tutelage, 35 Tigers have received All-Liberty League honors since joining the conference in 2011, while 43 earned All-Empire 8 honors from 1999-2010. Garno has coached four different conference Players of the Year, including 2019 Liberty League Co-Player of the Year, Simon Garno.

Garno’s players have excelled in the classroom, earning numerous academic honors, including 13 Tigers that were 2024 Liberty League All-Academic Team selections. Thirteen Tigers have been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-Region selections since 2015, including Daniel Gebura John Lucas in 2024. Sean Coots earned Third Team CSC Academic All-American honors in 2012.

From 1983 to 1986, Garno was a defender for the Tigers, helping RIT to an impeccable 59-8-6 record, four conference titles and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. After a successful collegiate career at RIT, Garno turned to coaching. Prior to taking over at RIT, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Rochester from 1992 to 1995.

A 1988 graduate of RIT, Garno lives in Rochester with his wife, Marcey. They have three children, Bailey (32), Ellie (30), and Simon (28), who played for his dad from 2016-2019.
