Karl Baum enters his third season as an assistant coach for the RIT wrestling squad.

Baum enjoyed a successful wrestling career, tallying over 100 career wins at Wayne High School. He then went on to compete at Syracuse University where he was one of the few NCAA Division I athletes to letter in multiple sports, including cross-country, track, and wrestling.

During his collegiate career, Baum served as starting wrestler at 125lbs. He received Academic All-American and Big East All-Academic honors.  He contributed to a second place team finish at the ECAC/IC4A Collegiate Cross Country Championships, and was recipient of the Fred Brightman Memorial Award for outstanding graduating student-athlete from the Rochester Area.

The Ontario, N.Y. native earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Syracuse in 2003 and a master’s degree in computer and information science the following year.  In 2008, Baum received his PhD from RIT in imaging science.

Baum, whose brother Luke is a standout grappler for the Tigers, currently works as a researcher in the Biomedical and Materials Multimodal Imaging Lab in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science at RIT.
