Former RIT wrestling standout Brad Mayville makes the transition from the mats to the sideline, serving as an assistant coach for the 2016-17 season.
One of RIT’s most decorated wrestlers, Mayville excelled on the mats from 2012-15, finishing 99-28 in three seasons at RIT. He is second all-time at the university with 38 career wins by pin and sixth in overall victories. Mayville, who also wrestled at Oswego State University as a freshman in 2011-12, recorded 124 wins in his collegiate career. He won 33 matches in each of his three seasons at RIT and competed at the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Division III Championship Tournaments. Mayville was a seven-time RIT Male Athlete of the Week and two-time Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week. He won five tournaments in his collegiate career.
In 2015, Mayville placed third at 149 lbs. at the NCAA Championship to garner All-American accolades. Mayville, who also was third at the NCAA Mideast Regional, led the team with a 33-6 record with 14 pinfalls. In 2013-14, Mayville earned his first bid to the NCAA Championships, finishing with 33 victories. The Ontario, N.Y. native arrived on campus as a sophomore in 2012-13, finishing 33-10 at 141 lbs.
Off the mat, Mayville carried an excellent 3.61 grade-point average and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Mayville was a 2015 CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-America selection and two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Academic All-American.
Last season, Mayville began his coaching career at his alma mater, Wayne Central High School, helping lead the squad to a Class BBB Section V Championship, while two wrestlers qualified for the New York State Tournament, and Matt Caccamise won a state championship at 113 lbs.
Mayville is set to begin pursuing his master’s degree in criminal justice from the university in 2016.
