Shaun Caveny enters his third season as volunteer assistant with the RIT baseball team in 2019-20. He brings more than a decade of coaching experience to the Tigers.
Prior to joining RIT, Caveny had two stints as an assistant coach with The College at Brockport, first from 2009-13 and then in 2016.
At Brockport, Caveny helped lead the program to the 2010 State University Athletic Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament, the schools first since 2004. In 2011, he helped guide the program to its second consecutive berth in the NCAA tournament and third place finish in the New York State Regional.
In between, he coached at Alma College and Virginia Intermont College.
In addition, Caveny has coached during the summers in the East Coast Baseball League (ECBL) and New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL). He has had several former players sign independent league and professional contracts.
Caveny was a standout relief pitcher at Utica College in the Empire 8 Conference. During his senior season at Utica in 2006 he was awarded a spot on the All-Conference team as well as earning a spot on the President’s List for his academic success.
He is a 2006 graduate and four-year letterman at Utica College, with a bachelor’s degree in health studies. He spent two seasons as the head coach at his alma mater and the 2007 season as the assistant coach for the Pioneers. As leader of the program, he coached nine athletes to Empire 8 All-Conference honors.
