Student-Athlete Stories of Resilience

Everyone experiences setbacks and failures. Failing grades, poor decisions, feelings of loneliness, financial problems, and so on. Resiliency, sometimes called grit, is the ability to recognize, face, and manage or overcome problems and challenges: to see failure as an opportunity to be strengthened, rather than defeated. Resilient students have the capacity to learn from and bounce back from problems and mistakes.

At RIT, students are encouraged to use the following framework when dealing with a setback:

Recognize the Reality, Reframe the Situation, Reach Out, and Reflect & Rally
Many successful students have gone through difficult times. They have struggled and felt like failures. When they look back on those experiences today, however, they feel stronger because of them. Here are some of their stories.
