ITHACA, N.Y. – The RIT women's rowing team opened the fall schedule with a strong performance at the Cayuga Sculling Sprints on Sunday, competing in both coxed quads and pairs.
 
The unique two-round event featured a cumulative ranking system as crews opened with a 2,000m head race before being seeded into 1,000m side-by-side sprint duels based on their initial times. Medals were awarded according to combined overall finishes within each boat class.
 
In the coxed quad competition, RIT's entries battled closely throughout the day. RIT B grabbed as early edge in the 2,000m piece, finishing two seconds ahead of RIT A. The RIT A boat responded in the 1,000m sprint, topping RIT B by two seconds. In the final standings, RIT A secured second place overall behind host Ithaca, while RIT B claimed third ahead of Cornell Boat Club.
The Tigers' four pair entries also delivered a fast pace across both rounds. RIT B led the effort, laying down the fastest 1,000m sprint of the entire women's field. That finish trimmed the gap against leader Rochester to just 2.5 seconds, earning RIT B a second-place finish overall.
 
In the opening 2,000m race, RIT B finished five seconds off the lead, while RIT C, RIT A, and RIT D placed fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. RIT A rallied in a sprint duel, gaining 10 seconds on RIT C to narrow the final combined gap between the two Tiger crews to just two seconds. Meanwhile, RIT D held off host Ithaca to lock down sixth place overall.
