Men's Lacrosse rolls past Elmhurst, 19-6 in NCAA Second Round

SALISBURY, MD – RIT sophomore Ryan Sanders and junior Erich Acton each scored five goals to lead the Tigers to an 19-6 win over Elmhurst in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, Saturday.
 
Senior attack Ethan Harkins tallied a goal and three assists. Senior attacker Tyson Allison and sophomore midfielder Ryan Bullock each scored a goal and an assist and first year midfielder Evan Lyon had two assists. First year midfielder Quinn Kailbourne and sophomore midfielder each scored two goals.
 
First year faceoff specialist Philip Minardo won 9-of-14 faceoffs while senior face-off specialist Ethan Spillane won 7-of-13 draws. Junior long-stick midfielder Adam Wong and junior defenseman Joe Holenstein each caused two turnovers. Holenstein led the Tigers with six ground balls. Senior goalie Alex Zborowski made six saves for the Tigers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior midfielder David Charney, Corry and Allison each scored to give RIT a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter.
  • Elmhurst answered with three straight goals, tying the game 3-3 on Landon Davis' second goal of the quarter.
  • Acton scored to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead and Sanders gave RIT a 5-3 on his goal with 50 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
  • Davis scored halfway through the second quarter to cut RIT's lead to 5-4.
  • RIT scored four goals in the final 7:49 of the half to extend its lead to 9-4.
  • Acton scored twice while Harkins and Bullock each scored to give the Tigers a five-goal lead at halftime.
  • RIT outscored Elmhurst 6-0 in the third quarter to lead 15-4 after three quarters.
  • Sanders scored four times while Acton scored two goals in the third for RIT.
  • Kailbourne scored two goals and Daley also scored in a three-goal RIT run in the fourth quarter to extend the Tigers lead to 18-4.
  • Hunter Hernandez and Brent Diehl scored back-to-back goals for the Bluejays before Daley scored his second goal of the quarter to make it a 19-6 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • RIT outshot Elmhurst 50-33, including 30 shots on net.
  • The Tigers went 19-of-22 on clearing attempts and won 18-of-29 faceoffs.
  • RIT went 2-for-4 on man-up and had 56 ground balls.
