TROY, N.Y. – RIT senior attack
Tyson Allison recorded a career-high eight points and four assists to lead the No. 12 Tigers to a 17-8 win at RPI, Saturday.
Sophomore attack
Ryan Sanders scored four goals and had two assists. Junior attack
Erich Acton tallied three goals and five points and first year midfielder
Charlie Iannone and senior attack
Ethan Harkins each scored two goals.
Acton had two of RIT's seven caused turnovers and led the Tigers with 11 ground balls. Senior defenseman
Alexander Chairs grabbed four ground balls and first year face-off specialist
Philip Minardo won 10-of-14 draws and grabbed six ground balls. Senior goalie
Alex Zborowski made 12 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sanders scored with 5:04 remaining and Zborowski made three saves to give RIT a 1-0 lead after the first quarter.
- The Tigers went 7-of-7 on clears in the opening frame and had seven ground balls.
- Cooper Manzi tied the game 1-1 on his goal 47 seconds into the second quarter.
- Sanders tallied back-to-back goals to give RIT a 3-1 lead.
- Michael Kline cut the Tiger's lead to 3-2 on his goal with 9:40 to play in the half.
- Allison scored two of RIT's four straight goals while Harkins and junior midfielder Jackson McEnerney each scored to give the Tigers a 7-2 lead at halftime.
- Ian Weihe scored early in the third quarter to cut RIT's lead to 7-3.
- Allison and sophomore midfielder Ryan Bullock scored back-to-back goals to extend the Tiger's lead to 9-3.
- Manzi scored to cut RIT's lead to 9-4 before consecutive goals from Acton, Allison and Harkins gave RIT a 12-4 lead.
- Hayden Wedemeyer scored to cut RIT's lead to 12-5 but Acton scored with 41 seconds to play in the third to give the Tigers a 13-5 lead.
- Kline cut RIT's lead to 13-6 on his goal in the fourth quarter.
- Iannone scored two of RIT's four straight goals. Acton and junior defensive midfielder Evan Wright each scored to extend the Tiger's lead to 17-6.
- Manzi and Mickey Sullivan each scored inside the final 1:15 to make it a 17-8 final.
GAME NOTES:
- RIT outshot RPI 52-34, including 31 on goal.
- The Tigers went 22-of-26 on clearing attempts and won 16-of-28 faceoffs.
- RIT went 3-for-3 on man-up and had 47 ground balls.
