Baseball tops St. Lawrence in seven innings, 14-3

CANTON, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team erupted for 14 runs on 13 hits as the Tigers rolled to a 14-3 win over St. Lawrence, Monday afternoon. RIT scored in five different innings and used a strong pitching performance to complete the road win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT struck first in the second inning, plating five runs on six hits, highlighted by a two-run triple from senior Jackson Rusiecki and an RBI double by graduate student Max Matteucci.
  • The Tigers added four more runs in the third inning as senior Trent Rapp drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk. Matteucci followed with a two-run single before senior Jarin Moses knocked in another run on a fielder's choice.
  • St. Lawrence got on the board with single runs in the second and two unearned runs in the fourth.
  • Rapp hit a two-run home run to left field in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 11-3.
  • RIT closed the scoring with a three-run seventh inning, capped by a two-run single from junior Isaac Braegelmann.
  • On the mound, senior Liam Miller earned the win, working four innings and allowing three runs (one earned) while striking out two. Graduate student Dylan Joseph threw three scoreless innings in relief, striking out three to finish the game.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Rapp went 2-for-3 with a home run and matched a career-high five RBIs, scoring three times.
  • Matteucci finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, reaching base three times.
  • Evan Kurtz, a junior, went 3-for-3 with a walk and scoring four runs.
  • Rusiecki added a triple and drove in two runs.
  • RIT pitchers combined to allow just eight hits while striking out five.
  • RIT improved to 9-10 overall and 3-3 in Liberty League play with the victory.
  • The win also gives head coach Rob Grow his 600th career win.

RIT returns home on Friday, April 3, to host Ithaca in a Liberty League matchup at the RIT Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
