Women's Lacrosse cruises past Bridgewater State, 19-2

CLEARWATER, FL – RIT senior attack Zoe Heffernan scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Tigers to a 19-2 win over Bridgewater State, Tuesday.
 
Senior midfielder Grace Validzic tied her career-high with three goals and four points. Junior attack Emma Ripley tallied a goal, and two assists and senior attack Jenna Bovenzi had three assists. Junior midfielder Sarah Hallinan and senior midfielders Eliza Barton and Kate Trojan each scored two goals. Senior midfielders Morgan Nichter and Adele Jones each tallied a goal and an assist and sophomore midfielder Giana DeLucia and first-year attack Alice Nichter each scored their first collegiate goals.
 
Senior attack Milena Stephen was seven draw controls, while Heffernan led the Tigers with four ground balls. Senior goalie Ellie Ruddy made three saves and first-year Grace Riley played the final 4:20.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Validzic scored with 8:29 remaining in the first quarter to give RIT a 1-0 lead.
  • The Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 on Heffernan's goal off an assist from Ripley with 2:49 remaining in the opening frame.
  • Hallinan scored off an assist from Ripley with 1:26 to play in the first quarter to give RIT a 3-0 lead followed by a goal from Jones with 52 seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.
  • Morgan Nichter scored with nine seconds remaining in the first quarter off an assist from Jones to give RIT a 5-0 lead.
  • Trojan scored midway through the second quarter off an assist from Validzic to give RIT a 6-0 lead.
  • Barton gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead on her free-position goal with 5:29 to play in the first half.
  • Validzic scored her second goal of the game with 4:25 to play in the second quarter to extend RIT's lead to 8-0.
  • Ripley scored to give RIT a 9-0 lead, Heffernan scored her second goal of the game with 3:04 to play in the half to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead and Barton scored with three seconds remaining to give RIT an 11-0 lead.
  • RIT outscored Bridgewater State 5-0 in the third quarter. Heffernan scored two goals in the quarter while Validzic, Serafina Kiselgof and DeLucia all scored a goal in the third quarter.
  • Lizzy Beacon scored Bridgewater's first goal early in the fourth quarter.
  • Trojan tallied a free-position goal to give RIT a 17-1 lead
  • Rosemary Lally scored with 5:37 remaining to make it 17-2.
  • Hallinan scored her second goal of the game with 3:36 remaining and Alice Nichter scored with 53 seconds to play to make it a 19-2 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • RIT outshot Bridgewater State, 31-7.
  • The Tigers won 13-of-24 draws and went 16-of-17 on clears.
  • RIT went 3-for-3 on free-position attempts.
