Women's Lacrosse downs Brockport, 11-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior midfielder Adele Jones scored three goals to lead the Tigers to an 11-3 win over Brockport, Saturday.
 
Senior midfielder Eliza Barton scored two goals while senior midfielders Grace Validzic and Morgan Nichter each had a goal and an assist. Sophomore attack Cameryn Case had two assists and Jones led RIT with five draw controls. Senior attack Milena Stephen won four draws and senior goalie Ellie Ruddy made eight saves.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Brockport's Karaline McCarthy scored with 12:20 remaining in the first period to give the Golden Eagles the lead.
  • RIT ran off four straight goals, taking a 4-1 lead on Nichter's goal with 12:05 remaining in the second quarter. Jones scored two straight goals, while Nichter added a pair of assists in the Tigers' run.
  • McCarthy scored her second goal of the game with 7:05 to play in the second quarter that cut RIT's lead to 4-2.
  • The Tigers scored the final four goals of the first half to lead 8-2 at intermission. Jones, senior attack Jenna Bovenzi, Barton and Validzic each scored for the Tigers.
  • Senior attack Zoe Heffernan scored a women-up goal to give RIT a 9-2 lead and junior midfielder Sarah Halinan tallied a women-up goal with 4:35 remaining in the third quarter to increase the Tigers lead to 10-2.
  • Tristan Davis scored with 1:08 to play in the third quarter that cut RIT's lead to 10-3.
  • Barton scored her second of the game with 11:25 to play in the fourth quarter to make it an 11-3 final.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • RIT outshot Brockport 28-17.
  • The Tigers won 12-of-16 draws and went 19-of-20 on clears.
  • First year defender Melia Wittlinger led the Tigers with three caused turnovers.
  • RIT went 2-for-3 on free-position attempts while Brockport was 1-for-3.
