Women's Lacrosse beats Rochester, 15-11

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT junior Zoe Heffernan scored five goals to lead the Tigers to a 15-11 win over Rochester, Wednesday.

Senior Lily DePalma score four goals and added an assist. Junior Morgan Nichter scored three goals and junior Jenna Bovenzi finished with a goal and two assists. Junior Milena Stephen scored two goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Heffernan scored early in the first quarter to give RIT the lead.
  • Rochester scored back-to-back goals taking a 2-1 lead on Lorelei King's goal.
  • Nichter scored with 7:24 to play in the quarter to tie the score at 2-2.
  • Heffernan scored with 58 seconds to play in the opening quarter to pull the Tigers to within a goal at 4-3.
  • Rochester's Anna Rogers scored early in the second quarter to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-3 lead.
  • DePalma scored to cut Rochester's lead to 5-4.
  • Alyssa Gorny scored to give Rochester a 6-4 lead.
  • DePalma and Nichter tallied back-to-back goals, tying the game at 6-6 on Nichter's goal with 47 seconds remaining in the half.
  • Stephen scored early in the third quarter to give the Tigers a 7-6 lead.
  • Gorny and Rogers scored back-to-back goals, taking an 8-7 lead on Rogers' goal with 9:47 remaining in the third,
  • Nichter and DePalma scored two straight goals, taking a 9-8 lead on DePalma's goal with 57 seconds to play in the frame.
  • Rogers scored with seven seconds to play in the third to tie the game at 9-9.
  • RIT scored the first five goals of the fourth quarter, taking a 14-9 lead on Stephen's goal with 7:13 to play.
  • Gracie Giannettino and Rogers scored two straight goals to make it 14-11.
  • Heffernan scored with 2:25 remaining to make it a 15-11 final.

GAME NOTES:
  • Rochester outshot RIT, 33-31
  • RIT was 16-of-21 on clearing attempts and had 17 ground balls
  • The Tigers won 16-of-30 draw controls
  • Sophomore Katherine Killian won four draw controls, caused a turnover and had a ground ball.
  • Junior Ellie Ruddy made 10 saves and first year Grace McDonald made seven saves to earn the win
