Baseball rally comes up short at Oswego, 11-9

OSWEGO, N.Y.   – The RIT baseball team lost 11-9 at Oswego in a non-conference game, Wednesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The visiting Tigers got on the board when junior Charlie Slaymaker hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. RIT made it 3-2 in the same inning when senior Randy Dodig singled to drive in sophomore  Mikey Zacher.
  • Oswego scored the next seven runs before Slaymaker crossed home plate off another single from Dodig in the seventh.
  • Graduate student John Bagley hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth to bring sophomore Dewey Rautzhan home to put the score at 11-4.
  • In the top of the ninth, junior Jarin Moses drove in first year Zachary Meehl and  sophomore Dorian Stroud on a double, making it 11-6.
  • Moses then scored on a passed ball to cut the Lakers' lead to four runs.
  • First-year Remington Lee singled to allow Reade to score with only one out.
  • The Tigers' rally stalled out when Zacher lined out before Slaymaker was tagged out to end the game.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Dodig finished the game going 2-of-4 at the place, scoring two runs and recording a pair of RBIs.
  • Slaymaker's home run is his fourth of the season and 12th of his career.
  • Junior pitcher Jack Luensmann took the loss for the Tigers after allowing three runs on two hits while striking out three batters in three innings of work.
  • The loss puts RIT's record at16-8 overall.
 
 
UP NEXT
RIT heads east this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders at Union (Apr. 12) and Bard (Apr. 13). Saturday and Sunday's games are schedule to start at noon.
