Baseball tops Utica, No. 2 Salve Regina to close out RussMatt Invitational

AUBURNDALE, Fla.  – The RIT baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with wins over Utica and No. 2 Salve Regina.
 
RIT 10-1 UTICA
  • With the game tied 1-1 entering the sixth inning, the Tigers broke things open by scoring eight runs in the top of the sixth.
  • The scoring started with John Bagley being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing Caelen Kim to advance from third to home.
  • Kim rounded out the scoring with a run off of a single by Charlie Slaymaker.
  • In the seventh, Jackson Rusiecki doubled into center field to bring in Randy Dodig to complete the 10-1 win.
 
RIT 9-6 No. 2 Salve Regina
  • RIT took down the No. 2-ranked Seahawks in the final game for the Tigers.
  • In the bottom of the third, Roberto Reade hit a two-run blast over the outfield fence to give RIT a 4-0 lead.
  • With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Reade doubled down the left field line to drive in all three runs to extend the Tigers' lead to 8-0.
  • Over the next two innings, Salve Regina cut into the lead after scoring five runs.
  • The Tigers tacked on another run in the eighth inning when Reade popped up to right field on a sacrifice fly to bring in Josh Eagle. In all, Reade finished with 6 RBIs to lead RIT.
