SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The RIT Softball team split a Liberty League doubleheader at Skidmore, Saturday, earning a 2-0 shutout in the opener before falling, 8-3, in game-two.
GAME 1 – RIT 2, SKIDMORE 0
- Sophomore Jessica Majot twirled a complete-game three hitter while compiling a career-high eight strikeouts for her third shutout of the season.
- The Tigers scored all the runs they needed in the first inning after senior Elise Guth started the game with a walk and, after advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Lillian Rienstra, reached third on a single down the right field line by junior Bailey Kehl. Kehl then stole second and then came home along with Guth on a two-run double by junior Maddy Cook for what proved to be the winning runs.
GAME 2 – SKIDMORE 8, RIT 3
- Cook finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI while Kehl was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
- Skidmore scored a run in the first but the Tigers answered in the top of the second with a run on an RBI double to left by junior Erin Ozminkowski after Cook led off with a double to left.
- The Thoroughbreds brought four runs across on four hits and a RIT error in the bottom of the second and added three more after a five-hit third inning to build an 8-1 lead.
- The Tigers got two back in the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Kehl and Cook.

RIT is scheduled to play back-to-back non-league road doubleheaders this week at Alfred on Tuesday (Apr. 23) and at Geneseo on Wednesday (Apr. 24). Both are slated for 3:00 p.m. starts.
