ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior centerfielder
Sam Kulp went 3-4 with a homerun, a double and two RBI while junior rightfielder
Adam Marsh went 3-5 with two RBI, but it was visiting Alfred State taking a 13-7 victory, Tuesday, in the Tigers' home opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marsh hit an RBI single up the middle in the first, scoring senior utiliyman John Bagley and giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead
- In the second inning, Alfred State scored two runs off a single, putting RIT behind by one
- The Pioneers earned two more runs off of a throwing error and a walk with the bases loaded in the third
- Marsh earned his second RBI of the day after hitting a single in the third that scored junior shortstop Randy Dodig. Two at-bats later, sophomore third baseman Charlie Slaymaker singled to left field, scoring Bagley and putting the Tigers within one
- Alfred State scored four runs in the fourth, taking an 8-3 lead
- After sophomore relief pitcher Trent Rapp threw a scoreless fifth inning, the Pioneers were able to tack on another run in the sixth, increasing the lead to six
- A two-run homer from Kulp, an RBI single from second basemen Jarin Moses and a walk with the bases loaded, earned by graduate student catcher Gil Merod, put the Tigers within two after seven innings of play
- Alfred State would go on to score four runs in the ninth, taking a 13-7 lead
- Moses doubled in the bottom of the ninth, but was left on base
GAME NOTES
- Sophomore pitcher Trent Rapp and junior pitcher Joseph Wozny made their first appearances on the mound this season
- Bagley scored a team-high three runs
- Marsh now leads the team with a .455 BA
