No. 2 Men's Lacrosse beats Grove City, 22-7 in home opener

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT junior attack Clifford Gaston tallied eight points on five goals and three assists to lead the No. 2 Tigers to a 22-7 win over Grove City, Friday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Gaston scored three of his five goals in a seven-goal first quarter for RIT. His goal from senior midfielder Seth Grottenthaler gave the Tigers a 7-1 lead late in the quarter.
  • Grottenthaler had two assists in the opening quarter, while Erickson scored a pair of goals.
  • RIT scored the first five goals of the second quarter, increasing its lead to 12-1 on junior attack Jack Budway's man-up goal with 2:20 remaining in the half.
  • Gaston had a goal and two assists in the quarter while Erickson and graduate student attack Luke Pilcher each tallied a goal and assist in the frame.
  • RIT outscored the Wolverines 6-4 in the third quarter. Senior long-stick midfielder Max Skene and first-year attack David Charney each tallied their first collegiate goals in the quarter.
  • Sophomore attack Tyson Allison scored two goals in the fourth quarter, while Charney and senior midfielder Miles Tillman each scored.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • RIT outshot Grove City, 55-42.
  • The Tigers went 2-of-2 on man-up and 24-of-30 on clearing attempts.
  • Sophomore goalie Alex Zborowski made 11 saves to improve to 2-0 on the season.
  • Pilcher scored his 150th career goal with 14:43 remaining in the second quarter moving him into sixth place on RIT's career goal scoring list.
  • Grottenthaler scored his 75th career point
  • Graduate student face-off specialist Allyn French won 11-of-16 face-offs and had five ground balls.
