Women's Hockey falls 5-2 at No. 7 Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – RIT senior forward Jordyn Bear and sophomore forward Linda Rulle each scored in the Tigers 5-2 loss at No. 7 Cornell, Tuesday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • First year goalie Brenna McNamara made nine saves in a scoreless first period.
  • The Tigers fired four shots on net in the opening frame, including one from senior forward Megan McCormick on a two-on-one rush for RIT.
  • McKenna Van Gelder gave The Big Red a 1-0 lead on her goal 5:19 into the second period.
  • Ashley Messier scored a power play goal at 10:44 of the second to increase Cornell's lead to 2-0.
  • Van Gelder tallied her second goal of the game 29 seconds into the third period to extend the Cornell lead to 3-0.
  • Bear scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 3:58 to cut the deficit to 3-1. Senior defensewoman Kyla Bear fired a shot from the slot that caromed off the backboards to twin-sister who Jordyn slammed in a shot from in front of the Cornell net.
  • Rulle scored a power play goal 1:13 later to make it one-goal game with 15:29 remaining in the third period.
  • Karel Prefontaine scored at 7:22 to give The Big Red a 4-2 lead and Messier scored her second power play goal of the game at 10:18 to make it a 5-2 final.

  • Cornell outshot RIT 33-12
  • The Tigers went 2-for-4 on the power play, while Cornell was 3-for-5
  • McNamara made 28 saves in her first collegiate start
