SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team split their games on day two of the Liberty League tournament, falling to Ithaca, 12-4, before eliminating crosstown rival Rochester, 12-3. The Tigers can earn their first conference title since 2017 with two wins against Ithaca on Saturday.
GAME 1: ITHACA 12, RIT 4
The Tigers scored first but were unable to keep up with the Ithaca offense. The loss sent RIT into the loser's bracket and a game that afternoon against the University of Rochester.
- The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the first when first-year second baseman Jarin Moses hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score the opening run to make it 1-0.
- Ithaca jumped ahead, 2-1, on a two-out single to right-center by Matt Fabian in the top of the third.
- The Bombers immediately added another with a single to right by Colin Shashaty to extend their lead to 3-1.
- Ithaca further extended their lead in the fifth, bringing home two to make the score 5-1.
- Ethan Rothstein singled in the sixth to move the Bombers into a 6-1 lead.
- First-year third baseman Charlie Slaymaker got RIT back on the board with a two-out single in the sixth to score one and narrow Ithaca's lead to 6-2.
- The Bombers would add on to their lead in the final innings, ultimately pulling ahead to 12-2 after a three-run home run by Garrett Callaghan in the top of the ninth.
- The Tigers plated two runs in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as they fell 12-4.
GAME 2: RIT 12, Rochester 3

Jon Opalewski threw a complete game and struck out five as the Tigers eliminated Rochester and punched a ticket for a rematch with Ithaca on Saturday. Sophomore outfielder
Adam Marsh went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the victory.
- Moses got the Tigers on the board first, 1-0, with a solo shot to left to begin the inning, his seventh round-tripper of the season.
- The Yellowjackets tried to tie it by sending Alec Ellison in on a double to left, but the Tigers were able to throw him out at home.
- RIT added to its lead in the top of the third, as Slaymaker scored from third on a wild pitch to make the score 2-0.
- Senior left fielder Chris Reilly got a big single up the middle with one out in the top of the fifth, plating two and extending the RIT lead to 4-0.
- Later that inning, Marsh hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.
- Reilly scored the next at-bat, coming home on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 6-0.
- Another run scored for RIT in the fifth thanks to a throwing error by the Rochester shortstop, putting the Tigers up 7-0 to cap off a five-run fifth.
- Rochester got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a one-out single by Jackson Reed to narrow RIT's lead to 7-1.
- RIT struck back in the top of the sixth, as Marsh singled home two more to up the Tiger lead to 9-1.
- The Tigers continued their scoring in the top of the seventh, taking advantage of defensive miscues by Rochester to score three more runs to make the game 12-1.
- The Yellowjackets' Dylan Stezzi hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to narrow RIT's lead to 12-3, but the Tigers remained well ahead for the victory.

The Tigers will have a rematch with the Ithaca Bombers on the final day of the Liberty League tournament on Saturday. RIT will have to beat Ithaca twice to win the conference title and automatically qualify for their first NCAA Division III Tournament since 2017. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
