No. 1 Men's Lacrosse wins 17-10 over No. 20 Ursinus

BALTIMORE, Md. – RIT sophomore Clifford Gaston and senior Luke Pilcher each scored four goals to lead to No. 1 Tigers to a 17-9 win over No. 20 Ursinus, Saturday at Johns Hopkins.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hollinger scored 50 seconds into the game to give RIT a 1-0 lead.
  • Senior midfielder Sean Traynor gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead on his transition goal.
  • Tyler Neal and Jeremy Calabro scored two straight goals for Ursinus to knot the score at 2-2.
  • Junior midfielder Seth Grottenthaler made it 3-2, while junior Michael Finneran scored to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.
  • Ursinus' Harry Sweitzer scored with 8:18 remaining in the quarter to make it 4-3, but two straight goals from sophomore Clifford Gaston increased the Tigers lead to 6-3.
  • Gaston sandwiched two goals between a Luke Pilcher goal to give the Tigers an 8-4 lead at the end of the first.
  • Neal scored his second of the game early in the second quarter to cut the RIT lead to 8-5.
  • RIT scored the first six goals of the third quarter, taking a 15-5 lead on Gaston's fourth goal of the game with 5:30 remaining in the quarter. Pilcher scored twice, while Bell, Finneran and senior Caiden Perry each scored for the Tigers.
  • Christopher Pucciare scored for Ursinus with 1:28 to play in the quarter to cut the RIT lead to 15-6.
  • Senior Zeb Hollinger scored early in the fourth quarter, while Chase Rondeau scored for the Bears to cut the RIT lead to 16-8.
  • Pilcher scored his fourth of the game off an assist from Hollinger with 4:31 remaining to give the Tigers a 17-9 lead.
  • Jake Ojert scored a goal in the final seconds to make it a 17-10 final.
 
GAME NOTES
  • RIT outshot Ursinus 51-45, and won the ground ball battle, 36-35
  • The Tigers went 2-for-2 on man-up chances.
  • Bell, Finneran and Hollinger each scored two goals, while senior John Mozrall had two assists.
  • Sophomore defenseman Michael Grace had seven ground balls.
  • Junior goalie Kyle Burbank made 14 saves.
