ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The RIT baseball team fell to host Rochester, 12-3, in Liberty League play in the regular season finale, Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rochester took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. An RBI-single made it 2-0 and that was followed by scoring plays from a sacrifice fly, reach on an error and wild pitch.
- The Yellowjackets added five more runs in the fourth for a 10-0 lead, highlighted by a two-run triple from Dan Tirabassi and a two-run home run from Harper Sy.
- Senior left fielder Chris Reilly's two-run home run scored senior third baseman Patrick Blackall in the sixth inning for a 10-2 game, but Rochester also added two runs in the bottom of the inning to restore its 10-run lead from a solo home run and an RBI single.
- Blackall's single scored junior catcher Zach Mecca for the game's final run in the ninth.
GAME NOTES
- The Tigers finished the 2022 regular season with a 17-17 record and 7-10 record in Liberty League play.
- As the third-seed in the West, RIT faces second-seed Bard of the East in the opening round of conference playoffs next weekend.
- Reilly's home run was his 10th of the season and tied the most in a season with Will Gorman (2017).
- The Tigers went 2-1 against Bard during the season with all three games on the road.
- Blackall had a team-best two of the team's seven hits, with Reilly (home run) and Porter (double) getting hits for extra bases.
- The Tigers stranded 10 base runners.
- Freshman starting pitcher Christian Marchbanks suffered the loss after allowing three hits, five runs, three walks with one strikeout in two-thirds innings.
- Four other pitchers saw action that included junior Peter Bossinas (one hit in two and one-third innings), graduate student Collin Reformat (four hits, five runs, and two walks in two innings), graduate student Trevor Povlock (one hit in two-thirds innings), and senior Matt Vitro (three hits and two runs with four strikeouts in two and one-third innings).
