Softball drops pair at Ithaca, 4-2, 8-0 (5 inn.)

ITHACA, N.Y. – The RIT softball team was swept at Liberty League-rival Ithaca, 4-2 and 8-0 (5 inn.), Friday.
 
GAME 1 – ITHACA 4, RIT 2
  • Junior Alexis Smith went 1-for-2 with an RBI while first-year Lilian Rienstra finished 1-for-3 with an RBI double.
  • Ithaca plated two runs in the first inning before RIT came back with a run in the third and another in the fourth to knot the score, 2-2.
  • Smith knocked a two-out single to center field to bring home first-year Kylie Aquaro for the Tigers' first run.
  • First-year Chloe McManus was hit by a pitch and came all the way around with the tying run on a two-out double by Rienstra.
  • Ithaca scored the deciding run in the sixth on a foul fly-out with runners on second and third, before a Tiger error on a play at the plate allowed another to come across.
  • First-year Lexi Pieri took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work. 
GAME 2 – ITHACA 8, RIT 0
  • Ithaca jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead before plating runs in the third and fourth innings for a 5-0 lead. The Bombers brought three runs across in the fifth to clinch the sweep.
  • First-year Erin Ozminkowski went 2-for-2 to account for both of RIT's hits.

RIT closes the regular season on Saturday (Apr. 29) with a doubleheader at Liberty League foe Skidmore slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
