Steph Darrell (WLAX) and senior
Taylor Jensen (MLAX) were named RIT Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Darrell recorded nine points on eight goals and an assist last week, becoming the 18th player in program history to reach the 100-point mark. She scored a career-high seven goals and eight points in Friday's 23-20 win over Union. Her assist on
Baylee West's goal in the second quarter against Skidmore, Saturday, was her 100th career point.
Jensen caused seven turnovers, eight ground balls and added an assist to lead No. 2 RIT to a 2-0 record last week. He caused three turnovers and scooped up six ground balls in the Tigers 14-4 win over Geneseo, Wednesday. Jensen caused four turnovers, grabbed three ground balls and had an assist in RIT's 20-7 win at Skidmore, Saturday.
April 19 Emily DiMarco (WT&F) Ben Sheehan (MT&F)
DiMarco won the discus at the UofR Spring Classic, Friday, with a program-record breaking 41.67m/136' 8" toss. Her mark currently ranks 18th in Division III and first in both the Atlantic Region and the Liberty League.
Sheehan won the long jump at the UofR Spring Classic, Friday, with a leap of 41.67m/136' 8". Setting a PR by nearly seven inches, he currently ranks 12th nationally and first in both the Atlantic Region and Liberty League in the event. Sheehan also anchored the Tigers' runner-up 4x100 relay (43.19) which posted the conference's second fastest time this spring.
April 6 Kirsten Auble (WTENN) Ben Sheehan (MT&F)
Auble went 2-0 last week in 3rd singles play with a 7-5, 5-7, 11-9 win against the University of Rochester and a 6-1, 6-2 win against Daemen.
Sheehan won the long jump at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational, Saturday, with a leap of 23' 05" which ranks 16th nationally, first in the Liberty League and second in the Atlantic Region. It was also a PR.
March 29 Colette Rigas (WLAX) Ryan Barnable (MLAX)
Rigas recorded 10 points on nine goals and an assist in two games last week. The senior midfielder scored three goals and added an assist in RIT's 14-11 loss at Vassar, Friday. She tied her season-high with six goals scored in the Tigers 20-10 win at Bard, Saturday.
Barnable tallied seven points on four goals and three assists to lead RIT to a 2-0 record last week. He tallied three goals and added a two assists in the Tigers 16-15 win at No. 5 St. John Fisher, Wednesday. He scored his 100th career goal in RIT's 24-13 win over Vassar, Saturday.
March 22 Aldyn Savage (WLAX) Will Porter (BASE)
Savage led RIT with 11 points on seven goals and four assists. She scored four goals and had two assists in the Tigers 15-9 win at Rochester, Wednesday, and scored three goals and added two assists in RIT's 20-15 loss against Clarkson, Saturday.
Porter batted .500 last week with 5 hits including a pair of doubles. The senior went 1-for-3 in RIT's 3-0 loss to St. John Fisher. He went 2-for-3 with two walks in the Tigers 6-1 win in game one of a double header at Oneonta, and was 2-for-4 with a run scored in an 8-5 win in game two.
March 15 Hannah Trumble (SOFT) Quinn Commandant (MLAX)
Trumble hit .444 with 10 runs scored and had six RBI on the Tigers annual trip to Florida. The senior went 3-for-5 and scored four runs against Rockford (March8) and scored three runs against New Jersey City (March 8).
Commandant tallied seven goals and eight points in two games. He scored two goals and added an assist in RIT's 14-11 win at No. 20 Stevens (March 10). He scored five goals in the Tigers 12-6 win at No. 19 Ursinus (March 13).
March 8 Katie Cobos (WT&F) Chris Reilly (BASE)
A four-time RIT Athlete of the Week, Cobos ran a PR 18:12.34 in finishing an All-Region seventh in the 5,000 on Saturday at the Atlantic Region Championships, Saturday.
Reilly helped baseball to a 4-0 record last weekend, including a walk-off HR in a 2-1 win over Saint Vincent. He finished the week with 6 hits - including 2 Hrs and a double - and recorded at least one hit in each win. Reilly also tallied 6 RBI, 4 runs with 1 BB in 15 ABs and added a stolen base.
March 1 Sarah Coe (WHKY) Kaidon Winters (WREST)
Coe went 1-1 at the CHA Tournament last weekend. The freshman netminder made 26 saves in the Tigers 6-4 win over Lindenwood in the first round. She made 49 saves in the Tigers 3-2 overtime loss to No. 1 Syracuse in the semifinals. Coe finished February with a .964 save percentage and a 2.68 goals-against average with 212 saves from 228 shots. In each of her five starts in February, she finished with 30 saves or better.
Winters dominated the 157-pound bracket by winning it with a 4-0 record with four pins and took the only two awards given to wrestlers at the NCAA Mideast Regionals last weekend at Elizabethtown, Pa.: Most Outstanding Wrestler and Most Falls in Least Amount of Time. Winters needed a combined 15:45 to pin all four opponents with an average pin time of just under four minutes per match on his way to punching a ticket to the NCAA Championship.
Winters pinned Perry Maio (The College of N.J.) in 3:39 in the opening round and then pinned Tyler Newton (University of Pitt-Bradford) in 2:06 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. On Sunday, Winters pinned Muhlenberg's Anson Dewar in the semifinals after 6:07 and then took the championship in 3:53 with a pin over The College of New Jersey's Matthew Sacco.
Feb. 22 Anna Peshenko (WS&D) Gellert Kish (MS&D)
Peshenko won three individual titles at the Liberty League Championship. Peshenko posted a time of 4:32.20 in the 400 IM finals to win her first Liberty League title. Friday, Peshenko won her second Liberty League title, swimming 1:04.96 to win the 100 breaststroke, and swam 2:20.58 in the 200 breaststroke finals to win her third individual title of the championship.
Kish won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving championships at the Liberty League Championship, earning Diver of the Meet honors. Friday, Kish completed the sweep of the diving competitions with a win the 1-meter competition, posting a score of 502.40 in the finals. He won the 3-meter title with a score of 529.20 on Wednesday.
Feb. 15 Sarah Coe (WHKY) Jacob Meyerson (MTEN)
Coe won her first career collegiate game in RIT's last home game of the season on Saturday. The Brooklin, Ont., native staved off 33-of-34 Lion shots, and finished the weekend with a 1.00 GAA and a .971 save percentage in a 3-1 victory over Lindenwood. This is Coe's third CHA weekly award of the season.
Meyerson teamed with senior Jake Wolickiu were 8-3 winners in first doubles, while posting 6-3 and 6-4 win at sixth singles to propel the Tigers to their first-ever program win over Vassar, 5-4, Saturday.
Feb. 8 Taylor Liotta (WHKY) Nick John (MT&F)
Liotta finished the weekend series with Mercyhurst with a .962 save percentage and a 2.17 goals-against average from 75 saves. In her lone start, Liotta registered 55 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Lakers in the second game of the series. She made 20 saves and allowed no goals in a relief performance in the first game.
John won the pole vault with an Atlantic Region Championship qualifying mark (4.85m/15' 11") while also setting a PR as five Tigers finished in the top-eight.
Feb. 1 Katie Cobos (WT&F) Jake Hamacher (MHKY)
Cobos took first place in the 5,000 with an Atlantic Region Championship-qualifying 18:33.85 clocking at RIT Invitational #1 Friday. Her win helped the Tigers to a first place finish.
Hamacher scored three goals to hep RIT to a 1-0-1 record at Bentley last weekend. He scored the eventual game-inner in Friday's 2-1 win against the Falcons, and scored twice in Sunday's 3-3 tie.
Jan. 25 Kimberly Dobie (WS&D) Thei Heilman (MS&D)
Dobie was a winner in the 100 backstroke finishing in a time of 1:00.02. She placed third in the 100 butterfly (1:01.42) and swam the opening leg in the winning 400 freestyle relay. Dobie swam the opening leg in the 200 medley relay that placed second.
Heilman won a pair of events to help RIT to wins over Nazareth and Rochester and a loss to Geneseo. Heilman won the 1,000 freestyle (10:13.79) and the 500 freestyle (4:51.33).
Jan. 18 Hana Solinger (WHOCK) Andrew Fox (MBB)
Solinger had key assists in both RIT goals that helped the Tigers to their first CHA point against visiting Penn State Saturday. The junior forward made a centering pass from the left post that resulted in tying the game at 1-1 in the first period. Solinger unleashed a shot from the right point that was redirected on its way to the net to knot the game at 2-2 and forced overtime.
Fox averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in two games last week for RIT. He led RIT with a career-high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting in Saturday's win over Vassar. He grabbed 12 rebounds and had two blocks. Friday, Fox scored 10 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting in a loss to Union.
Jan. 11 Kaleesha Joseph (WBB) Shane Murphy (WREST)
Junior forward Kaleesha Joseph (WBB) and senior Shane Murphy (WREST) were named RIT Female and Male Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10. It is the third time Joseph has won the award
Joseph averaged 20.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in three games last week for RIT earning Liberty League Player of the Week honors. She shot 59.0% from the floor and averaged 1.0 blocks and 1.67 steals. Joseph tallied 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with six rebounds in Tuesdays loss to Rochester. She scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and grabbed six rebounds in Friday's loss to William Smith. She wrapped up the week scoring 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds in a double-overtime win over Skidmore.
Murphy helped RIT to a fourth-place finish at the NWCA National Duals (Jan. 6-7). Murphy went 2-0 during the tournament and his pin over No. 10 Brock Henderson helped the Tigers defeat top-seed and No. 8 Coe by a 27-15 score that propelled RIT to its first NWCA National Dual Final Four. While trailing 3-1 in the second period, Murphy countered a leg attack in taking Henderson to his back for the fall. In the third-place tournament match against No. 1 North Central, Murphy was one of three Tigers to win after taking a 10-6 decision over Bradley Rosen.
Dec. 8 KhaVy Sangasy (WS&D) Brendan Kapp (MS&D)
Sangasy won three individual events and was four winning relays to help RIT to a first place finish at the 2021 Don Richards Invitational. Sangasy set a NCAA "B' cut qualifying time with a win in the 200 breaststroke, winning in a time of 2:21.70. She also won the 200 IM (2:07.59) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.85). She swam the anchor leg in the winning 200 and 400 free relay and swam legs in the winning 200 and 400 medley relays.
Kapp won three individual events, and helped the 200 and 400 medley relay teams to wins to help RIT to a first place finish at the 2021 Don Richards Invitational. Kapp set a NCAA "B" cut qualifying time and a Liberty League record in the 200 breaststroke, winning in a time of 2:02.03. He also was a winner in the 200 IM (1:53.57) and the 100 breaststroke (56.98), and helped the 200 (1:32.44) and 400 (3:05.21) medley relays to school records.
Dec. 1 Kaleesha Joseph (WBB) Chase Lewis (MBB)
Joseph scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead RIT to a 60-46 win at Brockport Tuesday. She shot 8-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the foul line, to go along with two blocks and two steals.
Lewis averaged 18.3 points, shooting 58.1 (18-of-31) percent from floor to help lead RIT to a 2-1 record last week. Lewis made 10-of-18 from beyond the arc and 9-of-10 from the foul line to go along with six assists and three steals. He was named to the Harold J. Brodie All-Tournament Team.
Nov. 23 Kaleesha Joseph (WBB) Shane Murphy (WREST)
Joseph averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, shooting 16-of-25 (.640) from floor, to earn Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout All-Tournament Team honors. Joesph scored a career-high 33 points on 13-of-17 shooting in a 72-61 win over Nazareth Saturday. She shot 7-of-10 from the foul line, grabbed nine rebounds and had three blocks against the Golden Flyers. Joseph grabbed 10 rebounds and scored six points in Thursday's loss at St. John Fisher.
Winters led RIT to a first-place finish at the NYS Collegiate Championship at Cortland, Saturday. Winters accumulated a team-high 24 team points and single-handedly accounted for the 22-point difference between first-place RIT and runner-up Ithaca. Winters went 4-0 on the day with four pins and took the 157-pound title over Chandler Merwin (Cortland State) in 6:10. His semifinal win over Wenchard Pierre-Louis (Ithaca) lasted 5:18 after a quarterfinal win over Max Yahre (Brockport) in 2:42. Winters won his opening match against Adrian Rosario-Beato (Ithaca) in 2:15.
Nov. 16 Christopher Horton (WRES) Katie Cobos (WXC)
Horton captured the 141 lb. title in the White Division, 7-3, over Notre Dame's Matthew Kaufman. In the semifinals, Horton won an 8-7 decision over Elijah Hunter (Tiffin). Horton won his quarterfinal bout with a 58 second pin over Heidelberg's Kyle Fanson before opening with a 9-2 victory over De' Ante Evans.
Cobos finished seventh out of 141 runners to lead the Tigers to seventh place out of 20 teams at the Niagara Regional Championships, Saturday. Cobos earned All-Region recognition after completing the six-kilometer circuit with a 23:27.5 clocking, 1:17 behind overall winner Windsor Ardner from Geneseo. She was invited to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 20th at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The top-seven finishers from each of the nation's 10 regions not on a qualifying team were also selected compete for a national championship as individuals.Cobos will be making her second NCAA Championship appearance after competing in the 2019 race, also held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
Nov. 9 Kaidon Winters (WRES) Kimberly Dobie (WS&D)
Winters posted a 5-0 record in winning the title at 157 lbs. at the Ned McGiney Invitational Saturday hosted by King's College. He had RIT's most impressive finish of the day after disposing of all five of his opponents by fall in a combined 7:51. Winters took the 157 lb. title with a 2:14 pin of Cortland's James Udasco. In the semifinals, Winters pinned Scranton's Daniel Kosinski in 2:06. Prior to that, the senior pinned Kevin Luker (Roger Williams) in 1:15, Maximus Parra (NYU) in 11 seconds and Chandler Marwin (Cortland) in 2:05.
Dobie won two individual events to help lead RIT to a win over Division II Gannon University Saturday. The freshman was a winner in the 100 backstroke (1:01.21) and the 100 freestyle (54.91), and helped the Tigers to a win in the 200 medley relay (1:50.46) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:41.01).
Oct. 31 John Lucas (MSOC) Women's Varsity 8 (WCREW)
The crew of Emma Goetzke, Liz Stublen, Eilis Cawley, Veronica Washco, Michelle Carney, Alanna Socha, Lily Gaffney, Rebecca Harris and Michaela Rymal took first place by .07 seconds at the Touchdown Regatta in Ithaca on Oct. 30 with a 12:45.53 time, earning Liberty League Boat of the Week honors.
Lucas scored a two goals to lead RIT to a 3-0 win over Union in Saturday's regular season finale. He gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead on his goal in the 25th minute, and tallied his second in the 70th minute to make it a 3-0 final.
Oct. 26 Brendan Kapp (MS&D), Kimberly Dobie (WS&D)
Kapp, the Liberty League Male Swimmer of the Week, won three individual events to lead RIT to a 221-73 win against Clarkson Saturday. He won the 100 Breaststroke (59.49), 200 Breaststroke (2:009.97) and 200 IM(2:00.11) and helped the 200 Medley Relay to a win.
Dobie, the Liberty League Female Swimming Rookie of the Week, won two individual events to help RIT to a 218-72 win over Clarkson Saturday. Dobie won the 50 Freestyle in a time of 25.16, and the 100 Freestyle (54.53), and led off both the winning 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relays.
Oct. 19: Erin Allor (WSOC), Will Calverley (MHOCK)
Allor tallied five points on two goals and an assist to lead RIT to a 2-0 record last weekend. Allor scored a goal and added an assist in the Tigers 3-0 win over RPI Friday. She scored in the 72nd minute, and had the assist on
Elle Hallock's goal in the 89th minute. She scored in the 28th minute in Saturday's 2-0 over Skidmore, moving into second on the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists.
Calverley scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over St. Lawrence at Blue Cross Arena Saturday night. The Saints attempted to start a clear from behind their own goal, but Calverley tipped the outlet pass that found
Kobe Walker alone at the top of the slot. Walker slid a quick pass back to Calverley for a one-timer inside the right post.
Oct. 10: Taylor Higgins (WVB), Aleksei Bingham (MXC)
Higgins helped RIT remain unbeaten in Liberty League play with a pair of victories last week. She started with 13 kills and a .522 hitting percentage along with seven digs in Friday's 3-0 sweep of Union, including 12 kills on 17 swings without an error through the first two sets. She then totaled a match-high 17 kills to go along with 14 digs and three service aces in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Skidmore. Higgins currently ranks sixth in the league with 3.26 kills per set, ninth with a .248 hitting percentage and 10th with 0.48 service aces per set.
Bingham finished first out of 99 runners at the Houghton Highlander Invitational, Saturday. He completed the eight-kilometer course in 25:54.56, besting the field by 15 seconds. The Tigers finished third out of eight teams in the field.
Oct. 5: Katie Hobler (WVB), Adam Wuest (MSOC)
Hobler led RIT to a 2-0 record at the Keene State Invitational on Saturday. She started with 11 kills and a .320 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs in a 3-0 sweep of Eastern Connecticut. Hobler then notched 18 kills and a .552 hitting percentage along with nine digs in a 3-0 sweep of the host Owls. She leads the Liberty League with a .332 hitting percentage and 4.18 kills per set.
Wuest, a defender, played all 90 minutes anchoring a RIT defense that recorded its fourth shut-out of the season in a 2-0 win over Clarkson Saturday. Wuest and the Tigers defense allowed four shots and only two to make it on net.
Sept. 28: Sydney Neff (WVB), Jason Trapp (MSOC)
Neff directed the RIT attack to a 3-0 record, including two Liberty League matches, last week. She started with 31 assists while leading the Tigers to a .306 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of visiting Rochester on Wednesday. Neff next led RIT to a 3-2 victory over visiting Clarkson, totaling a career-high 59 assists to go along with nine digs while guiding the Tiger attack to a solid .287 hitting percentage to upend the defending Liberty League champions. She finished with a 37-assist, five-dig effort in a 3-0 sweep at St. Lawrence on Saturday. Neff currently leads the conference with 10.68 assists per game while directing RIT to a league-best .261 hitting percentage.
Trapp recorded a 1-0-1 record in net for RIT last week. The freshman keeper recorded a 0.45 goals against average and boasted a .916 save percentage in 200 minutes of action. Trapp made a season-high eight saves in Wednesday's 0-0 draw at Hobart. He recorded three saves in Saturday's 2-1 come-from-behind win over Vassar.
Sept. 21: Katie Cobos (WXC), Aleksei Bingham (MXC)
Cobos was the third-fastest Division III finisher at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational on Saturday as RIT was the top Division III team in the 18-team field. Crossing the finish line 14th (23:11.03) out of 214 runners, she led RIT to a third-place finish behind Division I Cornell and Buffalo.
Bingham placed 18th out of 235 runners at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational, Saturday. In a field comprised of multiple Division I and III teams, Bingham was the fourth-fastest Division III competitor, crossing with a 26:13.9 clocking.
Sept. 14: Katie Hobler (WVB), Jacob Meyerson and Jake Wolicki (MTEN)
Hobler pushed RIT to a 2-1 record during three matches in Connecticut last week. She logged a season-high 16 kills to go along with six digs in a 3-1 victory at Western Connecticut on Saturday before totaling 10 kills and seven digs in a 3-0 sweep of St. Joseph's (LI). Hobler was also credited with eight kills and 10 digs in Friday's 3-0 setback at Wesleyan.
Wolicki teamed with Meyerson to beat Hobart's Jack Ledford and Nick Grasso 8-5 to win the B Flight doubles championship at the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic last weekend. Meyerson and Wolicki won 8-2 in their opening round match, 8-3 in the quarterfinals and defeated Hobart's Guthrie Speers and Hyat Oter 8-6 to advance to the championship match.
Sept. 8: Christine Cataldo-Smith (WSOC), Randy Dickersbach (MSOC)
Cataldo-Smith helped the Tigers to a 2-0 record last week, tallying four goals. She recorded her second career hat trick in a 4-0 win over Keuka College, scoring in the 16th, 19th and 67th minutes. She scored the lone goal in Saturday's 1-0 win at Oneonta, tallying in the 55th minute off an assist from Maddy Bullis (Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe).
Dickersbach helped RIT to a 2-0-1 record last week, scoring a pair of goals. Dickersbach redirected a shot into the lower right corner that deflected off a Brockport defender, tying the score at 1-1 in the 43rd minute. Dickersbach tallied his second goal off an assist from Devansh Mishra (North Potomac, MD/Thomas S. Wootton) in the 61st minute to extend RIT's lead to 3-1. He fired six shots, including two on net in a 2-2 tie against Mt. Aloysius Saturday.
