TROY, N.Y. – The No. 1 RIT (9-1, 1-1 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team lost 13-12 at No. 19 RPI (9-1, 3-0 Liberty League), Saturday. The Tigers were outscored 5-3 in the fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Marley Angus gave RIT a 1-0 lead on his man-up goal off an assist from sophomore John Mozrall.
- Mozrall gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead on his goal with 2:42 to play in the opening quarter.
- RPI's Connor Glosner and Trey Berry scored late in the quarter to tie the score at 2-2.
- Angus scored his second goal of the first half early in the second quarter to give RIT a 3-2 lead.
- Senior Ryan Barnable tallied a man-up goal with 9:56 to play in the half that gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead.
- RPI scored the final four goals of the second quarter to lead 7-4 at halftime.
- RIT scored the first five goals of the third quarter, taking an 8-7 lead on Angus' third goal of the game.
- Barnable and and senior Ryan Rosenblum each scored twice in the quarter.
- RPI's Luke Murphy scored with 1:01 to play in the third that cut the RIT lead to 9-8.
- Rosenblum scored his third goal of the game off an assist from Barnable to give RIT a 10-9 lead early in the fourth quarter.
- He tallied his fourth of the game with 12:20 remaining to give the Tigers an 11-10 lead.
- RPI ran off three straight goals, taking a 12-11 lead on Rhys Zoldi's goal.
- Trey Froehlich gave the Engineers a two-goal lead on his goal with 4:01 remaining.
- Senior Zeb Hollinger scored with 2:46 remaining to cut the lead to 13-12.
- RIT got the ball back in the closing seconds of regulation, but shots from Barnable and Rosenblum went wide.
GAME NOTES
- RIT fired 53 shots, including 35 on target.
- The Tigers won 20-of-29 face-offs and cleared the ball on 22-of-23 attempts.
- Rosenblum led RIT with four goals. Barnable and Angus each tallied three goals.
- Cooper Urban tallied three goals and added three assists to lead RPI.
- Joseph Perry made 23 saves in net for the Engineers.
- The loss snapped RIT's 23-game winning streak.
- The Tigers also dropped their first Liberty League regular season contest since a 9-6 loss at Clarkson in 2017, a span of 27 games.
