Baseball falls to Alfred State, 13-9

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT baseball team fell to visiting Alfred State, 13-9, in a non-conference matchup Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first inning, Alfred State jumped to a 2-0 lead before the Tigers responded with senior first baseman Ian Libby's double to score sophomore right fielder John Bagley for a 2-1 game.
  • Alfred State added two runs in the third and four runs in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. Bagley scored his second run from senior designated hitter Chris Reilly's ground out in the bottom of the fifth for an 8-2 game.
  • In the sixth, Bagley's two-run single brought the Tigers within four at 8-4 after scoring freshman left fielder Sam Kulp and junior catcher Kyle Poorman.
  • In the seventh, sophomore shortstop Randy Dodig's triple scored Reilly, and then Poorman reached on a fielder's choice scoring Dodig for an 8-6 game.
  • Brody Burdett's grand slam home run gave Alfred State a 12-6 lead in the eighth and the Pioneers added one more run in the ninth.
  • The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth from a fielder's choice, error and walk.
GAME NOTES
  • RIT out-hit Alfred State, 11-9
  • Freshman pitcher Christian Marchbanks took the loss after allowing one hit, two runs, two walks with four strikeouts in two innings of work.
  • RIT used five other pitchers during the game that included freshman Jack Plesniarski, graduate student Trevor Povlock, freshman Dylan Joseph, senior Matt Vitro and senior Liam Barry.
  • Libby and Kulp each had two hits for RIT.
  • Bagley finished with one hit, two RBI, two runs, two walks and one stolen base.
WHAT'S NEXT
Baseball returns to Liberty League play with a doubleheader against visiting Clarkson on Saturday, April 2 with the first game slated for 1 p.m.
