FORT MYERS, Fla. – The RIT softball team split two games on the fourth day of action at the Gene Cusic Classic, Thursday, earning a 10-9 comeback win over Immaculata before falling, 6-3, to Western Connecticut.
GAME 1 – RIT 10, IMMACULATA 9
- Junior Jill Vorreiter finished 4-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI while first-year Chloe McManus went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and the game-tying RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Tigers' comeback win.
- Vorreiter brought home McManus on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the second for the game's first run, before Immaculata answered with five runs in the top of the third.
- RIT made it a 5-3 games on a two-run single by Vorreiter in the bottom of the third, but Immaculata re-took a four-run lead, 7-3, with two runs in the fourth.
- The Tigers got one back in the fourth and another in the fifth before plating three runs in the sixth for an 8-7 lead. McManus led the sixth off with a double and came around on a hit by first-year Erin Ozminkowski. Vorreiter reached on a single and stole second, before first-year Kristin Hino brought Oszminkowski home with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Senior Hannah Trumble later brought Vorreiter home with an RBI single to give the Tigers their first lead.
- Immaculata re-took a 9-8 edge with a two-run seventh, buts RIT scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to earn the win. Junior Alexis Smith hit a one-out double before McManus brought her home with a single. McManus advanced to second on a ground-out by Osminkowski before heading to third on Vorreiter's fourth hit of the game. McManus beat a throw home on a ball hit to the infield by first-year Kristin Hino for the deciding run.
- First-year Crystal Madore only allowed three hits and one earned run over the final four innings to earn the relief victory.
GAME 2 – WESTERN CONNECTICUT 6, RIT 3
- First-year Kylie Aquaro went 2-for-4 with an RBI, but it was Western Connecticut scoring five runs in the top of the seventh to earn a comeback win.
- After Western Conn plated a run in the first, the game was scoreless until RIT brought three runs across in the bottom of the fourth. McManus hit a lead-off single before Ozminkowski reached on an error by the pitcher. Both eventually came around on a wild pitch before Aquaro brought home a run with a two-out single to right for a 3-1 Tiger lead.
- Madore cruised through six innings, only allowing one hit, before Western Connecticut rallied on four hits, a walk and a hit batter during its decisive seventh inning.
