Women's Soccer ties William Smith in Liberty League Semis, falls in PKs, 4-2

GENEVA, N.Y. – The No. 4 RIT women's soccer team tied top-seeded William Smith 0-0 in Friday's Liberty League Semifinal. The Heron's advanced to the title game, 4-2 on penalty kicks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore forward Sam Halligan had a chance for the Tigers in the 19th minute when she drove into the William Smith box and fired a shot that Herons goalie Amanda Kesler saved.
  • Junior midfielder Jessica Gomez had a shot from distance in the 21st minute saved by Kesler, and sophomore forward Emma Schock had a chance from 18-yards out in the 22nd minute that Kesler stopped.
  • Sophomore forward Olivia Harris had a chance in the 77th minute, firing a shot from the top of the box that Kesler turned away.
  • Senior goalie Darcie Jones stopped Julia DeMenna from close-range in the 90th minute to preserve the tie for the Tigers. 
GAME NOTES
  • William Smith outshot RIT 15-7.
  • The Tigers had two corner kicks.
  • Jones made seven saves for the Tigers.

RIT awaits a possible at-large berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field will be announced on Monday (Nov. 7) at 2:00 p.m.
