CANTON, N.Y. – RIT sophomore outside hitter
Liv Benard totaled 16 kills on .517 attacking to lead the Tigers to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-11) sweep at Liberty League-rival St. Lawrence, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened an 11-2 lead to start the first set, and led, 20-8, before scoring the final five points en route to the opening victory.
- The Tigers opened a 7-2, second-set lead, before the Saints battled back to tie the score, 8-8. RIT scored five-consecutive points, before St. Lawrence scored two to pull back within three, 13-10. However, the Tigers scored 10-straight points to put the set out of reach.
- Leading, 8-3, in the third, RIT rode a decisive 7-0 run to a 15-3 lead. The Tigers later scored five-straight points to build a 20-6 lead they would not relinquish.
MATCH NOTES
- Junior setter Sydney Neff totaled 27 assists and seven digs while guiding RIT to a .478 team hitting percentage.
- Junior defensive specialist Jessica Klein added a team-high eight digs and four service aces.
- The RIT defense held the Saints to a -.022 hitting percentage.
