ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore outside hitter
Liv Benard notched a career-high 25 kills and added 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season in a 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21) Liberty League victory over visiting Union, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT opened a 5-1 lead in the first set and led, 9-4, before Union scored four-consecutive points to pull within one, 9-8. The Tigers answered with three-straight points to start a 6-2 run en route to a 15-10 edge. The Dutchwomen pulled back within four, 16-12, but RIT rode a 7-1 run to a 23-13 lead it would not relinquish.
- Tied, 9-9, in the second, the Tigers put together a 7-3 run for a 16-12 lead. Union came back to tie the set, 18-18, but RIT won seven of the final eight points to put the set away.
- Union jumped out to an early 10-4 lead and led, 13-6, before the Tigers scored an 11-2 run to pull ahead, 17-15. Union regrouped to take a 22-21 lead and eventually scored back-to-back points to break a 24-24 tie and clinch the third.
- Tied, 12-12 in the fourth set, RIT scored six-straight points for an 18-12 lead. Union came back within one, 22-21, but the Tigers scored three-unanswered goals to put the match away.
MATCH NOTES
- Junior setter Sydney Neff logged a season-high 47 assists along with 13 digs.
- Grad student middle blocker Calista Gasper finished with 11 kills and three total blocks (1 solo), finishing with a match-high .421 attack percentage.
- Junior libero Hailey Blixt totaled 13 digs and six service aces.
