Cam Shuman (Rochester, NY/Churhcville-Chili) scored the eventual game winning goal to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 win over Nazareth College (1-1-1) on day two of the 2021 Doug May Memorial Classic, Sunday. Senior
Adam Wuest (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and junior
Tommy Reed (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) each tallied for the Tigers who improve to 2-0-1 on the season.
How it Happened
- Wuest scored off a Jonathan Cohen (Newton, MA/Newton North) corner kick in the 16th minute that gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
- Shuman tallied his first goal of the season in the 31st minute off an assist from sophomore Garrett Drake (Latham, NY/Shaker) that gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
- Reed scored his first goal of the season for the Tigers in the 69th minute off an assist from Zac Salas (Durham, NC/Cross Roads Flex School) and Cohen.
- Dominic Marino scored for Nazareth in the final minute to make it a 3-1 final.
Game Notes
- RIT out shot Nazareth 14-5, including six shots on net.
- Senior goalkeeper Guarav Cheema won his second game of the season.
- Nazareth goalkeeper Logan Menna took the loss in net for the Golden Flyers, making three saves.
About Doug May
- Doug May coached at RIT for 16 seasons
- Under his guidance, RIT made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, four trips to the Final Four and an appearance in the 1988 Division III title game.
- After RIT, May moved on to coach Nazareth College from 1996-2003, leading the Golden Flyers to the Empire 8 co-championship in his final season.
- He posted a career record of 251-120-38 over the course of 24 seasons, including an incredible 196-56-24 mark at RIT.
- He was inducted into the RIT Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.
- RIT head coach Bill Garno and Nazareth coach Mike Tantalo played for legendary head coach Doug May at RIT.
