ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team fell 15-5 (6 inn.) and 11-6 to visiting RPI in its final games of the 2021 season.
GAME 1 – RPI 15, RIT 5 (6 Inn.)
- The Engineers scored four runs in the first and six in the second, including second-inning homeruns by Erin Askins and Alex Ledger that contributed to a 10-0 lead.
- RIT scored three times in the bottom of the second on a bases-clearing double to right by Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon).
- RPI took a 12-5 lead in the fifth on a two-run homerun by Askins and added three more in the sixth for the final runs of the game.
GAME 2 – RPI 11, RIT 6
- Raquel Estrada (Middletown, NY/Middletown) finished 2-for-3 with a homerun, two runs scored and two RBI while Brooke Seifert (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) was 2-for-4 with two batted in.
- RIT led, 2-1, after the first inning after Estrada launched a two-run shot over the left field fence.
- RPI tied the game with a run in the second and added three more in the third for a 5-2 lead.
- The Engineers scored four in the top of the sixth for a 9-2 lead, but RIT responded with four of their own in the bottom half of the inning, including a two-run, bases loaded hit by Siefert.
- RPI plated two more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
SENIOR DAY
Three Tigers were honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the game. Estrada,
Melissa Gould (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) and
Katelyn Koester (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) each made their final appearance in an RIT uniform during the doubleheader.
