ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT softball team fell, 12-4, in five innings to visiting Rochester in Liberty League action at Tiger Stadium, Saturday afternoon. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed and will be made up at a later date.
Trailing 1-0, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead on RBI hits byÂ
Julia Vaillancourt (Braintree, MA/Braintree) and
Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) in the home half of the second inning, plating
Jill Vorreiter (Fisherville, KY/Mercy Academy of Louisville) and
Jennifer Vickery (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville).Â
The Yellowjackets tied the game on a RBI single by Alizah Ayon in the top of the third inning, but RIT junior
Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) drove home senior
Raquel Estrada (Middletown, NY/Middletown) with a single in the bottom of the third to give RIT a 3-2 lead.
Rochester answered with four runs in the fourth inning and scored five in the fifth inning.
Vickery,
Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) and
Katelyn Koester (Buffalo, NY/Sweet Home) each had a pair of hits for RIT. Hannah Leahy got the win on the mound for Rochester, while
Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) took the loss for the Tigers.
RIT is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday (April 13) hosting Brockport for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
