Alfred sweeps softball, 3-0, 9-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT softball team was swept by visiting Alfred, Thursday afternoon, falling 3-0 in the opener before taking a 9-2 loss in game-two.
 
GAME 1: Alfred 3, RIT 0
  • Alfred scored two in the top of the second inning on a two-run double by Raygan Wesco.
  • The Saxson plated another in the third on a sacrifice fly by Tatiana Meji
  • RIT loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth, including a one-out single down the right field line by senior Julia Vaillancourt (Braintree, MA/Braintree), but Alfred starter Jessica Wilcox gout out of the jam with two of her 11 strikeouts in the game.
  • Senior Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) went the distance in the circle for the loss, striking out six while not allowing any walks.
 
GAME 2: Alfred 9, RIT 2
  • Alfred brought home three runs in the first on a double by Elena Ceja and a single by Alyssa Guitr.
  • The Saxons plated an unearned run in the third on an errant throw home with the bases loaded.
  • Alfred took a 5-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Ceja.
  • RIT scored a pair of runs in the fourth. Junior first baseman Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) led off with a single to right and later advanced to second on an infield single by freshman third baseman Brooke Seifert (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill). Junior second baseman Abcde Cortinas (San Antonio, TX/Highlands) reached on an error by the pitcher to load the bases before Bilich came home on a wild pitch. Cortinas also came home on a wild pitch two batters later.
  • Alfred tacked on two more runs in the fifth as well as two more in the seventh before the game was called in the bottom of the seventh due to darkness.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT is scheduled to open Liberty League play this weekend opposite Ithaca, starting with two road games on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. followed by a pair of home games on Sunday, also slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
