ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-4-0, 1-4-0 CHA) women's hockey team was defeated 4-0 by Mercyhurst University (3-1-0, 3-1-0 CHA) in College America action from the Gene Polisseni Center Thursday afternoon.
Shots were 29-18 in favor of the Lakers. RIT took two penalties for four minutes, while Mercyhurst took four penalties for eight minutes. The Tigers were scoreless on four power play attempts, while the Lakers went 0-for-2 with the extra skater.
Alexa Vasko and Sara Boucher each tallied a goal and an assist for Mercyhurst. Grace Nelles finished with two assists, while Chantel Ste-Croix and Megan Korzack each scored a goal. Jenna Silvonen picked up the win in net for Mercyhurst, making 18 saves, while
Taylor Liotta (Mississauga, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) took the loss for RIT, making 25 saves.
Vasko gave Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead on her goal at 14:39 of the first period. Boucher fired a shot into traffic in front of the RIT net. Vasko, who was parked in front of the Tigers goal, tipped home a low shot past Liotta.
Boucher gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead on her shot into the top corner from the left face-off dot, while Ste-Croix made it 3-0 when she jammed home a shot on a scrum in front of the RIT net. Korzak out-muscled a RIT defender and drove to add an empty-net goal at the 16:55 mark to make it a 4-0 final.
