BOSTON – RIT's Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) was selected by the Buffalo Beauts in the fifth round of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) Draft, Wednesday night.
Taken with the 26th overall pick, Land is the second Tiger ever drafted by an NWHL team. Last year, Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) '19 was selected by the Metropolitan Riveters with the sixth overall pick.
Land appeared in 135 games over the last four seasons, finishing with 37 career points on 12 goals and 25 assists while playing the Tiger blue line. The captain tied for the team lead with a career-high 12 assists this past winter, finishing the season tied for fourth with 16 points.
Land notched a goal and an assist in the Tigers' 4-3 victory over Penn State (Feb. 15) and had a career-high three points on a goal and two assists in the 4-2 win over visiting Brown (Oct. 26).
In the classroom, Land double majored in management information systems and business management over the last four years.
Numerous RIT players have signed with NWHL teams since its inaugural season in 2015. Celeste Brown '15 (Buffalo Beauts), Erin Zach '14 (New York Riveters) and Kourtney Kunichika '15 (Buffalo Beauts) were the first Tigers to sign in 2015. Most recently, four other Tigers from the Class of 2019 joined Cornine in the league last year - Brooke Baker (Saline, MI/Saline) and Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep) (Riveters), Kandice Sheriff (Brampton, Ontario/) (Beauts) and Brinna Dochniak (Marine on St. Croix, MN/Stillwater) (Connecticut Whale).
