BUFFALO, N.Y. – RIT junior defender Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) scored a goal, but it was fourth-seeded Penn State skating to a 4-1 victory over the fifth-seeded Tigers in the quarterfinals of the College Hockey America (CHA) Tournament, Thursday, at the LECOM Harborcenter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams played a scoreless first period until the final minute. Larson shot down the left wing and juked a Penn State defender in front to score on a short back-hand inside the right post with 34.7 on the clock.
- Penn State scored twice during a four-minute stretch to take a 3-1 lead in the second period. Junior forward Natalie Heising fought her way through a crowd in front of the Tiger goal to tip in a short shot with 12:03 on the clock before sophomore forward Anna Promersberger cleaned up a loose puck from close range with 8:29 remaining.
- The Nittany Lions made it a 3-1 game in the third period after Heising finished a left-wing rush off a nice feed from senior forward Brooke Madsen with 5:36 left in regulation.
- Heising completed the hat-trick with 38.7 left in regulation to seal the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Penn State also eliminated RIT in the first round of the 2019 CHA Tournament with a 4-1 decision.
- The Nittany Lions finished the game with a 38-28 shot advantage.
- RIT senior goalie Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) totaled 33 saves for her 10th-straight and 18th game of the season with at least 30 saves. She finished her career as the program's career leader with over 5,700 minutes and 102 games played, along with 3,253 saves.
- RIT finished the season with a 12-19-4 record.
