FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The RIT softball team split its final two games on the final day of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, Friday, at the Century Link Sports Complex. The Tigers fell to Oneonta, 7-1, before taking down Curry, 12-7.

ONEONTA 7, RIT 1
RIT sophomore first baseman Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) collected two hits while sophomore centerfielder Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) went 1 for 3 with an RBI in the Oneonta setback.

  • The Red Dragons plated two runs in the first and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to build a 5-0 lead.
  • RIT scored in the bottom of the sixth. Junior left fielder Samm Carroll (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) led off the inning with an infield single and came all the way around to score on a single to centerfield by Trumble.
  • Oneonta responded with two more runs in the seventh to close the game.

RIT 12, CURRY 7
Senior pitcher Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) finished 2 for 4 with a homerun, two runs scored and four RBI, and also threw 2.2 shutout innings to earn the relief win to lead the Tigers past Curry.

  • Curry opened a 3-0 led in the second inning and held RIT scoreless until a seven-run fourth inning. Sophomore first baseman Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) drew a lead-off walk before sophomore third baseman Jennifer Vickery (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) advanced her to third with a double to centerfield. Adler brought them both around with a single to right and eventually came around to score during a Curry throwing error that yielded three runs. Freshman Catcher Alexis Smith (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) knocked a two-out double to left and came around to score on a single to left by senior shortstop Erin Guinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva).
  • Curry tied the game with four runs in the top of the fifth, but the Tigers retook a 10-7 lead in the fifth on Adler's two-run homerun and an RBI single by freshman left fielder Natalie Barrera (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial) to follow up a triple by sophomore center fielder Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon).
  • RIT put the game out of reach with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
