PITTSBURGH – RIT junior forward Jake Hamacher (Corona, CA/Dubuque Fighting Saints) scored two goals as the Tigers skated to a 3-3 tie at Robert Morris in Atlantic Hockey action, Saturday. The Colonials earned the extra conference point, scoring with 43.9 left in the second overtime period.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Robert Morris got on the board with 12:32 on the first-period clock, but RIT responded with a power play goal with 1:52 left in the first period. Senior forward Shawn Cameron (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cumberland Grads) sent a feed across the top of the Colonial zone to freshman defenseman Ryan Nicholson (Mississauga, Ontario/Oakville Blades), who fed Hamacher in the right face-off circle for a scoring wrist shot.
  • RIT took a 2-1 lead early in the second period. Senior forward Jordan Peacock (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Cougars) wrapped around behind the Colonial goal and stuffed a shot inside the right post with 16:50 on the clock.
  • Eight minutes later, Nicholson sent a puck forward to freshman forward Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks, AK/Flin Flon Bombers), who crossed a feed to Hamacher on the right post for a quick finish and a 3-1 lead with 8:48 left in the second.
  • Robert Morris converted a power-play opportunity with 3:55 on the clock to make it a 3-2 game heading into the third.
  • The Colonials evened the game with 1:38 left in regulation after Aidan Spellacy scored on a short back-hander through a crowd in front of the Tiger goal.

GAME NOTES

  • Junior goalie Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) was credited with 35 saves for his ninth 30-plus game of the season.
  • Hamacher's tallies were the 24th and 25th of his career. 
  • Cameron's assist gave him four points for the weekend, including two goals and an assist in Friday' night's 4-1 victory. 
  • Freshman defenseman Ryan Nicholson (Mississauga, Ontario/Oakville Blades) finished with a career-high three assists.

WHAT'S NEXT

RIT finishes the regular season playing five of its final six games at the Polisseni Center, starting with two games opposite visiting Bentley next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 14-15) at 7:05 p.m. and 5:05 p.m., respectively.
