Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – RIT freshman forward Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks, AK/Flin Flon Bombers) notched a pair of third-period power play goals to help bring the Tigers back from a 3-0 deficit, but it was host Canisius scoring twice in the final minute of regulation to earn a 5-3 victory in Atlantic Hockey action, Saturday, at the Harborcenter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Canisius converted a 5-on-3 opportunity with 6:02 left in the first period to open the scoring. The Golden Griffins cycled the puck around the zone before Lee Lapid scored inside the right post.
  • Canisius made it a 2-0 lead with 9:41 left in the second after Mitchell Martan beat the Tiger defense back for a shot through the pads of junior goalie Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks).
  • Will Scherer scored with 15:46 left in the third to push the Golden Griffin lead to 3-0.
  • RIT got on the board with 13:35 left in the third following a Canisius tripping penalty. Moretz received a cross-ice feed in the left face-off circle from junior defenseman Dan Willett (Bayville, NY/Bloomington Thunder) and buried a one-timer.
  • Moretz tipped a short rebound inside the left post with 6:19 left in the period as the Golden Griffins were skating a man-down after a roughing call.
  • RIT tied the score with 1:17 left in regulation after Drackett skated to the bench for an extra skater. Sophomore forward Will Calverley (Scarborough, Ontario/Chilliwack Chiefs) trickled a short rebound through Canisius goalie Jacob Barczewski's pads after a flurry of shots in front of the crease.
  • However, the Golden Griffins re-took the lead 17 seconds later after Matt Hoover finished a rush with a wrist shot inside the right post. Nick Hutchison scored into an empty RIT net 29 seconds later to close the night.
GAME NOTES
  • Drackett finished the game with 23 saves, including nine in the first period.
  • Willett ended the game with three assists.
  • RIT put 17 shots on goal in the third period as the teams finished the night tied, 28-28.
