Women's Ice Hockey falls to visiting Mercyhurst, 5-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT sophomore forward Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) scored her ninth goal of the season, but it was visiting Mercyhurst earning a 5-1 victory over the Tigers, Saturday, in College Hockey America action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mercyhurst opened a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game on a pair of goals by sophomore forward Sarah Nelles. Her first came on a feed from behind the left post from juior forward Alexa Vasko with 16:35 on the clock while her second went inside the right post off her skate on a cross from the left wing at 13:05.
  • Mecyhurst scored 17 seconds into the second period after causing a turnover on the right boards in the RIT zone. Sophomore forward Liliane Perreaul fed senior forward Emma Nuutinen in the slot for a scoring wrist shot.
  • The Lakers made it a 4-0 game with 2:10 left in the first on a bar-down shot from the slot by senior forward Maggie Knott.    
  • Mercyhurst opened a 5-0 lead after senior forward Michele Robillard finished a break-away opportunity with 15:42 left in regulation.
  • Davies got the Tigers on the board after tipping a shot from the point by senior defender Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) inside the right post with 5:28 on the clock.

GAME NOTES
  • Senior goalie Taylor Liotta (Mississauga, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) was credited with 31 saves in her first collegiate start for the Tigers.
  • Davies scored a goal in her second-consecutive game after also notching a goal and an assist in last night's 5-2 setback to the Lakers. Davies leads RIT in scoring with 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists).

WHAT'S NEXT
RIT splits a home-and-home series with College Hockey America rival Syracuse. The Tigers hit the road for a 7:00 p.m. road game on Friday (Feb. 7) before returning home to host the Orange on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 6:00 p.m.
