Box Score TEMPE, AZ – Senior forward
Shawn Cameron (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cumberland Grads) scored twice as the RIT men's hockey team (11-10-3-0, 7-6-3-0-1) lost 5-3 at No. 14 Arizona State (15-8-3, 0-0-0), 5-3 Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore forward Kobe Walker (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Bobcats) built off his previous night's performance by putting RIT on the board a little more than six minutes into the first period. He managed to get past the ASU defense off a quick possession change to score.
- Arizona State came back with 3:40 left in the first as a shot from Junior forward William Knierim took an unfortunate bounce underneath Logan Drackett's (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) padding to find its way across the goal line.
- Cameron helped put the Tigers back on top by scoring on a similar breakaway-type play to the one that Walker opened the game with.
- Cameron scored his second goal of the night 1:18 into the second period. He was set up in front of the goal by assists from Junior forwards Bryson Traptow (Calgary, Alberta/Camrose Kodiaks) and Nick Bruce (Fall River, Nova Scotia/Johnstown Tomahawks) who were positioned behind the net.
- The Tigers killed off a 5-on-3 power-play but Knierim recorded his second goal of the night for the Sun Devils with 13:19 left in the second. He deflected a high shot from Junior defenseman Gvido Jansons into the net.
- ASU evened the score at 3 apiece with 8:34 left in the second period as Sophomore forward PJ Morrocco capitalized on an open look in front of the net. He was set up by assists from Knierim and Senior forward Brett Gruber. The second period ended with the teams tied at 3-3.
- The Sun Devils pushed ahead to a 4-3 lead with 12:54 remaining in the third, as Sophomore defenseman Joshua Maniscalco tipped in a rebound off his own shot to score.
- Shortly after, ASU extended their lead to 5-3 as Junior forward James Sanchez capitalized on a power play with 10:09 left. He scored on a shot from above the right-side circle. The score of 5-3 would hold until the end of the game
