ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 1 RIT (19-1) men's lacrosse team advanced to the third round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship with a 20-5 win over John Carroll University (13-7) in second round action Wednesday evening from RIT's Turf Field. RIT opened the game on a 12-0 run to win its 14th straight contest.
"We did what we had to do tonight to advance," said RIT head coach 
Jake Coon. "The guys played unselfish and figured things out on the fly. We did a good job of executing the game plan and advancing to the third round."
Shots were 43-26 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle 53-34. The Tigers won 22-of-29 face-offs, cleared the ball 22-of-29 times and went 2-of-3 on their man-up chances. 
Adam Wolf (Oakville, Ontario/Everest Academy) and 
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) each tallied three goals, while 
Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), 
Conor Bollin (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), 
Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) and 
Ryan Rosenblum (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) scored two goals apiece. In all, 12 different Tigers scored a goal.
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the win in net, making six saves in limited action. 
Holden McDonald (Toronto, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) played the final 34:55, making five stops. 
Jimmy Spillane (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) won nine face-offs and had six ground balls. 
Brett Naylor (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and Erik Jacobsze each had four ground balls, while Jacobsze also caused three turnovers.
Kevin Hack led John Carroll with two goals, while Clayton Karam had 13 ground balls and caused four turnovers for the Blue Streaks. Jacob Betz took the loss in net for John Carroll, making 11 saves.
RIT led 9-0 after the first quarter and 13-2 at halftime. Tait scored all three of his goals in the first half, while Wolf, Rosenblum, Isaac each scored twice in the first 30 minutes of action. The Tigers scored the nine first quarter goals in a span of 10:14 to break the game open.
Bennett Gorman, who scored the game-winner against Hope Tuesday, broke the RIT run with his goal with 4:19 remaining in the first half. Hack made it two straight goals for John Carroll on his goal with 1:16 to play.
Nick Pompelia opened the second half scoring on his unassisted goal that cut the RIT lead down to 13-3. Bollin answered with two straight goals, and Rosenblum's second of the game with 7:56 to play in the third quarter extended the RIT lead to 16-3.
Powlin, Wolf and Tandy all scored in the fourth quarter for RIT, with Tandy tallying two straight goals. Hack tallied his second of the game with 8:11 to play to make it a 20-5 final.
The Tigers scored 20 goals in a game for the sixth time in 2019. RIT has defeated John Carroll three times in the last four years, all in NCAA Tournament play. RIT, making its 10th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 21st in program history, is now 28-20 all-time in tournament play. The Tigers are 22-9 in NCAA Tournament play since 2010.
RIT advances to the third round where they will host Liberty League rival, Union College on Saturday, May 11. The Tigers defeated the Dutchmen 12-9 on April 24 and 14-6 in the Liberty League championship May 4. Game time will be announced on Thursday. Visit
