Women's tennis has season end with loss to Skidmore in Liberty League Semifinals

Tigers finish with school record 13 dual wins in 2018-19

Box Score ITHACA, NY - The fourth seeded RIT women's tennis team (13-6) had its 2018-19 season come to an end, falling to top-seed Skidmore College (12-6), 5-0 in the Liberty League Semifinals from the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University Saturday morning.
 
Skkdmore, the eight-time defending Liberty League Champions, started the match by winning all three doubles contests. Risa Fukushige and Renee Karchere-Sun defeated Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and Krsiten Zablonski and Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) at first doubles, while Jessica Ampel and Audrey SooHoo earned a win over Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Shayna Ginster (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) at second doubles. Lily Feldman and Sofia Carlsson completed the sweep at third doubles with a win over Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) and Annie Steinbrink (Upper Dublin, PA/Upper Dublin).
 
In singles play, the Thoroughbreds, ranked No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III national poll, won the first two matches to secure the win and advance to the Liberty League Championship.
 
Skidmore will play the winner of No. 2 seed Vassar and No. 3 seed William Smith for the Liberty League Championship on Sunday at 10 a.m.
 
Despite the loss, RIT made history in 2018-19, tying a single-season program record with 13 dual wins, while earning its first Liberty League postseason victory. Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) led the team in singles wins for the second consecutive season with 18, while Kirsten Auble (Portland, OR/Sunset) added 17 and Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) was right behind with 16. Ginster and Ying went 16-7 at second doubles, while Anne Taylor (Beaver, PA/Beaver) and Zablonski also finished with 16 doubles victories.
