Softball drops both ends of doubleheader to Oswego

Tigers played in first games since March 15

OSWEGO, NY – The RIT softball team (5-9) dropped a pair of road games at Oswego State University (5-9) on Tuesday afternoon. Oswego won game one, 10-2 in five innings and took game two, 4-0. It was RIT's first two games since March 15.
 
In game one, RIT took a quick 2-0 lead, as Erin Guinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva) drove in Hannah Trumble (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) with a first inning single and Guinan would score in the third inning after reaching base and coming around on a single by Raquel Estrada (Middletown, NY/Middletown).
 
Oswego would rally with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning, the big blow coming off the bat of Rebecca Vilchez, who hit a grand slam to make it 7-2 Lakers. Oswego would add two more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.
 
Guinan went 2-for-3 with a run scored and run batted in for RIT, while Trumble also had two hits and scored a run.
 
Oswego's 4-6 hitters in the lineup combined to drive in eight runs. Angela Frampton went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Brianna Harrington doubled, walked twice and drove in a pair of runs. Vilchez, who drove in four runs with the third inning grand slam, also got the win on the mound, scattering four hits and a pair of unearned runs over four innings.
 
In game two, Oswego scored all four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning and hung on for the shutout win.
 
Danielle Hotz (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) and Trumble led the way offensively with two hits apiece. Haley Czerwinski (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) had RIT's other hit. Melissa Gould (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) came on in relief and was excellent for the Tigers, scattering five hits over five shutout innings.
Harrington earned the win on the mound for Oswego, allowing five hits over six shutout innings. Jessica Annello pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two batters.
 
Erin Sweeney and Claire Hewitt both had two hits in the win for Oswego. Sweeney scored a run, while Hewitt drove a run in. Madalana Wrubel, Taylor DuBois and Sarah McCullough also drove in a run apiece for the Lakers.

The Tigers are right back in action with a doubleheader at non-league foe St. John Fisher College at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
