Baseball suffers non-conference loss at Hamilton

CLINTON, NY – The RIT baseball team (12-13) suffered a 6-2 loss at Hamilton College (13-12) in non-league action from Loop Road Baseball/Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Hamilton jumped out to a 5-0 lead after five innings before RIT manufactured two runs without the benefit of a hit in the sixth inning. Ian Humes (Hockessin, DE/Shipley School), Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) and Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) walked in succession with one out, before Joey Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run to put RIT on the board. Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) would hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in the second RIT run.

The Tigers had just two hits in the contest, a leadoff bunt single by Waterman to lead off the game and a leadoff single by Humes in the eighth.

Craig Sandford homered and scored a pair of runs for Hamilton, while Joe Suski drove in two runs.

Six Hamilton pitchers combined on the two-hitter. Gavin Schafer-Hood started and allowed just the one hit over three innings, while Chris Keane picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Jamie Hauswith, Kenny Gray and Ian Nish also had scoreless outings for the Continentals.

Collin Reformat (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) started and threw a scoreless first inning. Jack Leahey (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) allowed a run over the next two innings, while Dennis Houlihan (Sugar Loaf, NY/Warwick Valley) also threw two innings. Liam Barry (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), Bryce Jellinck and Trevor Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) all fired an inning of relief.

RIT is back in action this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders at Liberty League foe Skidmore College. Friday's doubleheader will get underway at 1 p.m., while Saturday's pair is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
