Softball has two leads slip away in pair of losses at Union

SCHENECTADY, NY – The RIT softball team (8-16, 1-5 Liberty League) dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Liberty League rival Union College (10-9, 5-1 Liberty League) from Alexander Field on Saturday afternoon. Union rallied to win game one, 7-4 and scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun RIT in game two, 7-6.
 
In game one, RIT scored four times in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Danielle Hotz (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) laced a double down the left field line to score two runs, while Olivia Doret (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) added a two-run single.
 
Union would regain the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning with seven runs on three hits, two walks and two batters hit by pitch.
 
RIT out-hit Union, 7-5 in game one. Hotz and Sarina had two hits and a run scored apiece. Erin Guinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva), Doret and Sarah Thayer (Tully, NY/Fabius-Pompey) added a hit each. Torie Adler (West Chester, PA/B. Reed Henderson) took the loss, allowing three hits, but walking five batters in four innings. Melissa Gould (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) got the final six outs in relief.
 
Kim Puzo drove in a pair of runs to lead Union. Catie Raeter picked up the win in relief, allowing just hit over 3 1/3 innings.
 
In game two, RIT led 6-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, before Union came all the way back with five runs. Puzo hit a walk-off three-run home run to win the game for the Dutchwomen.
 
RIT out-hit Union, 11-7. Brianna Bilich (Penryn, CA/Del Oro) went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Laura Weintraub (Syosset, NY/Syosset) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI and Madisen Baldwin (Washougal, WA/Washougal) drove in a pair of runs. Thayer added two hits, while Guinan scored three times and drove in a run.
 
Dana Dolinko was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Raeter picked up her second straight win in relief.

Union moved into second in the Liberty League standings, while RIT dropped to seventh.

RIT is right back in action at 1 p.m. on Sunday with a doubleheader at Liberty League foe University of Rochester.
