SYRACUSE, NY -- The No. 3 RIT (3-0) men's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-4 win over Springfield College (1-2) at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University Tuesday evening. RIT scored 17 straight goals over a 41-minute span between the end of the first quarter and into the fourth quarter.
Shots were 51-27 in favor of RIT, who won the ground ball battle 46-29. The Tigers won 22-of-29 face-offs and went 4-for-5 on man-up. Senior
Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) led RIT with a career-high six goals.
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, Ontario/Mother Teresa) tallied three goals, while
Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid),
Luke Henderson (Hespeler, Ontario/St. Benedict's Catholic) and
Conor Bollin (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) each scored two goals.
Ryan Barnable (Whitby, Ontario/Donald A. Wilson) and
John Mozrall (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) each had two assists.
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the win in net, making eight saves.
Holden McDonald (Toronto, Ontatrio/St. Mary Catholic) and
Drew Hutchison (Otonabee, Ontario/The Hill Academy) made three saves apiece.
Landon Nolta (Highlands Ranch, CO/Mountain Vista) won 12-of-13 draws and had two ground balls, while
Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) added eight face-off wins.
Trevor Smyth (Orangeville, Ontario/The Kiski School) was one of four Tigers to scoop up four ground balls, while
Chandler Allen (Ilderon, Ontario/Medway) and
Matt Pogue (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Paul Secondary) each caused two turnovers.
Jack Vail, Tommy Nash, Zachary Schuette and Cole Pecora each scored for the Pride, while Cole Finerty took the loss in net, making 16 saves.
Springfield scored the first goal of the game, taking a 1-0 lead on Pecora's goal at the 11:09 mark of the first quarter. The Tigers rattled off three straight goals, taking a 3-1 lead on Isaac's first goal of the game with 6:35 remaining in the quarter. After a Nash goal cut the RIT lead to 3-2, RIT ended the quarter tallying three straight goals to lead 6-2 after 15 minutes.
RIT outscored Springfield 5-0 in the second quarter to lead 11-2 at halftime. Tait scored twice in the quarter for RIT, while Smyth,
Chris Brown (Homer, NY/Homer) and Isaac each scored. The Tigers continued their domination in the third quarter, outscoring Springfield 7-0 in the quarter. RIT tacked on three goals in the fourth quarter, while Springfield got goals from Schuette and Vail to make it a 21-4 final.
The Tigers beat Springfield for the second consecutive season at the Carrier Dome.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 9 when the Tigers face Clarkson University at 12 p.m. in Potsdam, N.Y. It will be the Liberty League opener for both squads.
