Big second half helps women's lacrosse to 20-12 win over Keene State

ENGLEWOOD, FL -- The RIT (2-2) women's lacrosse team wrapped up its Spring Break trip with a 20-12 win over Keene State College (1-2) Wednesday evening. The Tigers outscored the Owls 13-8 in the second half to wrap up their trip with two wins in three games.

Shots were 26-19 in favor of RIT, while the Tigers won 15-of-29 draw controls. The Tigers went 5-for-5 on clearing attempts, and converted 5-of-7 free position attempts.

Colette Rigas (Marietta, NY/Marcellus) led RIT with five points on four goals and an assist. Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Krystyna Sterio (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each scored three goals, while Meghan Donahue (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Olivia Africa (Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), Steph Darrell (East Norhtport, NY/St. Anthony's) and Skylar Burlee (Churchville, NY/Churhcville-Chili) each scored two goals. Rigas won six draw controls, while Africa came away with four draws. Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) got the win in net, making three saves.

Chelsea Lewis led Keene State with four goals. Brigid Casey tallied three goals for the Owls, while Tess Masci scored twice. Joanna Steinhauer took the loss in net for Keene State, making three saves.

Trailing 2-1 early in the first half, RIT ran off six straight goals, taking a 7-2 lead on Rigas' goal with 11:45 remaining in the half. Fallone, Darrell, Donahue, Sterio, Katherine Cameron (Eldersburg, MD/Chapelgate Christian Academy) and Rigas all scored for the Tigers in the run. Keene State converted two free position attempts late in the first half to cut the RIT lead to 7-4 at the intermission.

Erica Chareth cut the RIT lead to 7-5 on her goal early in the second half. Burlee and Sterio answered right back with two straight goals to give the Tigers a 9-5 lead. After an Owls goal made it a three-goal deficit, RIT began to pull away, rattling off four straight goals, taking a 13-6 lead on a Darrell goal with 20:58 to play.

The Tigers went on another four-goal spurt, taking a 17-7 lead on Africa's goal with 13:55 to play. .

RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 16 when the Tigers resume Liberty League play at home versus St. Lawrence University at 12 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
